Hi, I’m Maria, and Stitch and Sew is where I share the practical side of sewing: the projects worth making, the techniques that make them turn out well, and the fixes for the problems every sewist runs into sooner or later.
The site is written for home sewists. Maybe you just unboxed your first machine and aren’t sure how to thread it. Maybe you’ve been sewing for years and want a better way to put in a zipper, or finally figure out why your seams keep puckering. Either way, the goal is the same: clear, honest help you can use at a normal sewing table.
What you’ll find here
- Sewing projects: quick makes, beginner projects, handmade gifts, home decor and ways to use up your fabric stash, with sizes, fabric amounts and steps.
- Sewing tips and techniques: step-by-step tutorials, the “why” behind common techniques, and the mistakes worth avoiding.

How we write our guides
Every article aims to answer the question you actually came with, quickly, and then give you enough detail to get it right: measurements, fabric suggestions, the order of steps, and what to do when something goes wrong. We keep instructions brand-neutral wherever possible, because most techniques work the same way on most home machines, and we point out where your machine’s manual should have the final word.
We update older articles when better information or better methods come along. If you spot something that’s out of date or just plain wrong, please let us know. Corrections are always welcome.
How the site is supported
Stitch and Sew is free to read. Some articles contain affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend. You can read the full affiliate disclosure and our privacy policy for details.
